Bronx, N.Y. - Alyssa Dewey, former assistant rowing coach at Skidmore College, was named assistant rowing coach/recruiting coordinator at Fordham University it was announced today by head coach Ted Bonanno.
 
"I am thrilled to have Alyssa joining my staff," said Bonanno. "She has an extensive background in coaching and recruiting. I am looking forward to having her assist with coaching all our athletes, while working very closely with the many prospective student athletes that have expressed interest in Fordham. Her gold and silver medals from NCAA Championships gives her the competitive background all our rowers are aspiring to duplicate."
 
Dewey joins the Rams' staff having just completed her Master's of Education in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership from the University of Washington in July.
 
While finishing the online portion of her master's degree during the 2016-17 season, Dewey served as the Assistant Men's and Women's Rowing Coach at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York.  During her year at Skidmore, Dewey helped to grow the roster size of the men's and women's teams and saw strong performances from the varsity men's 4+ which placed second at the National Invitational Rowing Championships, and from the top women's single who claimed first at the Dad Vail Regatta.
 
Prior to coaching at Skidmore, Dewey spent two years as the Assistant Women's Rowing Coach at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon.  Aiding the head coach in the revitalization of the rowing program, she helped grow the team from four to 18 varsity rowers.  Dewey was primarily responsible for coaching the novices whose 8+ crew performed at a level competitive with other second varsity crews in the conference.  During the culmination of the 2016 season, her novice 4+ boat raced well against Division I, II, III, and club crews, earning themselves a place in the petite final at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships.  Sadly, the final was cancelled due to high winds.
 
Dewey began coaching at Sammamish Rowing Association in Redmond, Wash. where she served in many different coaching roles including: assistant junior girls coach, 5a.m. and mid-morning novice masters coach, learn-to-row coach, and most notably, head coach of the junior novice girl's team.  Under her direction, the Sammamish Novice Girls won heats in four of their five events at the Northwest Junior Regional Championship regatta and went on to medal in the 4+ and 2x events.
 
As an undergraduate, Alyssa attended Western Washington University where she was a four-year member of the women's rowing team.  Her rowing accomplishments include three Northwest Collegiate Rowing Conference championships and first place finishes at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships in 2011 and 2012.  In 2011 Dewey won the NCAA Division II National Rowing Championship as a member of Western's varsity 4+ crew.  In 2012, she concluded her senior year by rowing in the varsity 8+ crew that placed second at the NCAA Division II National Rowing Championships, just 1.6 seconds behind first place finishers Humboldt State.  Dewey graduated from Western Washington with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology in 2012.
 
Alyssa is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and holds a USRowing Level II Coaching Certification.
