Box Score 2 Boca Raton, Fla. – The Fordham softball team wrapped up its preseason tournament schedule with a pair of victories on Tuesday, walking off winners, 2-1, against Fairfield, and shutting out Florida Atlantic, 7-0, in the nightcap to move to 20-6 on the season, the fastest the program has ever reached 20 wins.
Madison Aughinbaugh and
Lauren Quense each did their part in the circle, the former limiting the Stags to just one run over seven complete innings and the latter doing one better by surrendering no runs during her seven frames. The complete games are the third and ninth of the season, respectively. Aughinbaugh improved to 5-3 with the victory, while Quense picked up her 13
th win in 17 starts.
Sydney Canessa singled in
Jessica Hughes to kick the game off in the first inning and later scored the winning run, singling to start the seventh inning, moving to second on a wild pitch, then third on a fielder's choice before scoring on
Skylar Johnston's sacrifice fly.
The top of the order again put in quick work in game two, with Hughes walking to start the contest and scoring on
Amy Van Hoven's loud double, and
Lindsay Mayer blasting her third homer of the year to give the Rams an early 3-0 lead, although the first run would be all Quense needed. Fordham added four more in the fifth inning by loading the bases and scoring in a variety of ways: an error, a single, a sac fly, and a walk.
The Rams have the rest of the week and next weekend off and begin the next portion of their schedule next Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Hofstra. The following day at the same time, Fordham will host Iona in its home opener at Bahoshy Field.
