Jessica Widmann Named Co-recipient of Claire and Jack Hobbs Award

Grad student honored as female athlete of the year

Bronx, N.Y. - As the 2015-2016 season begins to wind down, the Fordham University Athletic Department held its 82nd annual Block F Awards Dinner in the Rose Hill Gym on Wednesday night to honor Fordham University's student-athletes for their accomplishments during the academic year.

Among those honored were Chase Edmonds, who was the recipient of the Vincent T. Lombardi Award as Fordham's top male student-athlete, Samantha Clark and Jessica Widmann, co-recipients of the Claire and Jack Hobbs Award as Fordham's top female student-athletes and former head football coach Joe Moorhead, who was named Fordham's Coach of the Year.

The Claire & Jack Hobbs Memorial Award is presented to the Female Athlete of the Year who has achieved outstanding athletic accomplishments. The award is named in honor of the late Claire and Jack Hobbs.  Jack was a 1938 graduate of Fordham College and a 1941 graduate of Fordham Law, and he and his wife were avid Fordham followers.

Widmann, a First Team All-Atlantic 10, Second Team All-ECAC and First Team NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region selection, wrapped up a stellar career at Fordham with a career year in 2015.  She was named First Team All-Atlantic 10 after leading the team in goals (12), assists (5), and points (29), while tying for the team-lead in game-winning goals with five.

The 12 goals and 29 points tied for the third-most by a Ram in a single season.  She earned Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week honors once this year, and climbed into top six all-time at Fordham in career goals (6th – 19), assists (T2nd – 14), points (6th – 52), and games started (T1st – 75).

Widmann was also a key component in the Rams' drive to the Atlantic 10 Championship game for the third time in team history.  She netted the game-tying goal in the Atlantic 10 semifinal against George Mason, and later notched the clinching penalty kick marker to send the Rams' into the A-10 final.

Academically, Widmann was a Third Team CoSIDA Academic All-American®.
