Women's Tennis Takes Tough 4-3 Loss at Army

West Point, N.Y. – The Fordham women's tennis team took a tough 4-3 defeat on the road at Army on Saturday afternoon, with the decisive point coming down to the sixth and final singles match. The loss drops the Rams to 2-2 on the season, while the Black Knights improve to 9-3 overall.
 
Army earned the doubles point with its first two victories of the three. Eva Sung and Rugile Valuniate took down Mayu Sato and Hannah Drayton, 7-5, before the duo of Genevieve McCormack and Kirby Einck defeated Wong and Insogna, 6-1. Fordham did get a doubles win in the final contest where Alexis Zobeideh and Destiny Grunin took down Nancy Porter and Arianna Spirtos, 6-3.
 
In #1 singles, the Black Knights took a 2-0 lead through Carolyn Pitman's 6-0, 6-3 defeat of Fordham's Wong, but the Rams equalized things at two apiece through Sato and Drayton. Saito took down Valuniate, 6-3, 6-4, and Drayton was victories over McCormack, 6-3, 5-7, 2-2 (10-8).
 
The schools traded wins again to knot things up at there; Einck defeated Zobeideh, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, while Grunin bested Bridget Guernard, 6-3, 1-6, 2-2 (9-7). However, it was Army's Porter who got the Black Knights their ninth win of the season with a 6-2, 6-1 win over freshman Gianna Insogna.
 
The team remains in West Point for a match against Marist tomorrow, starting at 10 a.m.
