Photo GalleryBLOOMFIELD, Conn. -- The Fordham men's golf team opened its fall season over the weekend by finishing in a tie for fourth place at Central Connecticut's Ryan Lee Memorial Tournament, which took place at the par-72 Tumble Brook Country Club. The Rams sat in a tie for second place after the first round with a score of 4-over-par 292, before shooting a 6-over-par 294 in the second and final round to finish 12 strokes behind Atlantic 10 rival Rhode Island, who won the 12-team event with a 574 (292-282).
Fordham saw four of its student-athletes establish new career lows. Sophomore
Matt Schiller finished in a tie for fourth place on the individual leaderboard after finishing with a 2-under-par 144 (72-70). The even-par 72 in the first round was a career low, before the 2-under-par 70 in the final round turned into a new career low.
Sophomore
Joseph Trim finished in a tie for 16th place with a 1-over-par 145 (72-73). He tied his career low in the first round with an even-par 72. Also tying a career low in the first round was sophomore
James Mongey, who shot a 1-over-par 73, before finishing with a 7-over-par 151 (73-78).
Junior
Fernando Morett continued the trend and shot a 3-over-par 75 in the first round to establish a new career low and finished with a 155 (75-79) for the tournament.
In his first collegiate tournament, freshman
Thomas Hayes had a rough start to his career with an 83 in the opening round. But he bounced back in a big way in the final round by firing a 1-over-par 73.
Junior
Oscar Cabanas played as an individual for the Rams and finished with a 162 (86-76).
Fordham returns to action Sept. 21-22 when it travels to South Kent, Conn. to participate in the Hartford Hawks Invitational at Bull's Bridge Golf Club.
