Box Score Vivien Beil's goal in the 22
nd minute turned out to be the difference as the Maine Black Bears defeated the Fordham Rams, 1-0, at Mahaney Diamond in Orono, Maine.
The loss evens Fordham's record at 1-1 on the year, while Maine improved to 2-0.
The only goal of the contest came in the 22
nd minute off a corner kick. Vivien Bell took a return pass from Jenna Soucy off a short corner and scored into the top half of the net over Fordham goalkeeper
Megan Fitzgerald. It was Bell's first of the year.
Fordham put the pressure on the Black Bears for the remainder of the first half, as the Rams searched for the tying goal. However, Claudia Dube-Trempe made saves on shots from
Kristina Maksuti,
Brooke Salmon, and
Brianna Blunck to keep Fordham off the board.
In the second half, the Rams tested Dube-Trempe two more times, the last in the 83
rd minute, as
Jessica Widmann's shot just under the crossbar was caught and kept out of the goal to preserve the 1-0 win.
For Fordham, Fitzgerald ended the match with five saves, while Maksuti registered a team-high three shots.
