SERIES HISTORY: This is the fifth all-time meeting between Fordham and VCU with VCU having won all four previous meeting. The teams last met in early October, when VCU won a 3-2 overtime match in Richmond, Virginia.
First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection Jessica WidmannLAST TIME OUT: Fordham junior defender
Brianna Blunck couldn't have found a better time for her first career goal, as she scored with 25.9 seconds left in regulation to give Fordham a 1-1 draw with George Mason in women's soccer action at Jack Coffey Field on Senior Day.
With the tie, Fordham finishes the regular season with a 12-6-1 overall, 6-3-1 in the Atlantic 10, while George Mason moved to 8-9-1 on the year, 4-5-1 in the league. The tie earns Fordham the fifth seed at the Atlantic 10 Championship.
After a scoreless first half, George Mason looked to spoil Fordham's Senior Day for the second straight season, when the Patriots scored the first goal of the game in the opening minute of the second half. Daniela Neves placed a lead throw-in to the feet of Alex Myers, who netted her fifth goal of the season on a left side shot just over Fordham goalkeeper
Megan Fitzgerald, squeezing the ball just inside the far post.
The Rams had eight shots in the second half, but could not find the back of the net, until the final minute of regulation.
Jessica Widmann had the ball on the right side of the box, with her back to the goal. She kicked the ball over her shoulder, with the ball bouncing through the box to a wide open
Brianna Blunck. Blunck then one-timed a shot into the right side of the goal for her first collegiate goal.
Neither team was able to net the go-ahead marker in overtime, resulting in the 1-1 draw, which allowed George Mason to clinch the final spot in the Atlantic 10 Championship.
In goal, George Mason's Kirsten Glad made eight saves, while Fitzergald had two stops for the Rams.
