Swimming & Diving Splits Meet with UMass

Rams Finish Regular Season On Wednesday against St. Francis (NY) and LIU-Brooklyn

Results

The Fordham swimming & diving season is reaching its final stages, and on Saturday, the Rams hosted the University of Massachusetts for its second-to-last home meet.  The Fordham women came away with a 176-119 win at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center, while the Fordham men fell, 172.5-115.5.
 
Fordham came away with 11 event wins in the women's competition, while the men won five events.
 
The day started with Fordham victories in both the women's and men's 200 medley relay.  The women's team of Morgan Fairclough, Victoria McGovern, Shannon Lulley, and Chandler Lulley posted a time of 1:48.01, while the men's team of J.T. Klimko, John Furlong, Joe Mercurio, and Thomas Shetler recorded a season-best time of 1:34.57.
 
Then in individual action, Fordham's trio of sophomores, Fairclough, Kalena Laurent, and Megan Polaha, each won two events, while junior Steve Sholdra recorded three individual wins.
 
Fairclough captured first in the 100- (58.15) and 200-yard (2:07.11) backstroke events, while Laurent grabbed first in the 200- (1:53.71) and 500-yard (5:02.68) freestyle events.  Polaha won butterfly events, taking first in the 100 in 57.23 seconds and the 200 in 2:02.74.
 
Sholdra won both distance freestyle events as well as the 200-yard butterfly.  He swam 9:34.95 in the 1000 freestyle, 4:38.74 in the 500 freestyle, and 1:50.93 in the 200 butterfly.
 
Other individual winners for the Rams included McGovern in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.75), Megan Gray in the 100 freestyle (53.39), and Shannon Lulley in the 50 freestyle (24.36).
 
The competition concluded with a Fordham sweep in the 200 freestyle relay.  On the women's side, S. Lulley, M. Gray, Erin McBride, and C. Lulley won in 1:38.82, while Shetler, Mercurio, Christopher Daniell, and Patrick Militti had a winning time of 1:26.16.
 
The Rams conclude their regular season on Wednesday, February 4th, when Fordham hosts St. Francis (NY) and LIU-Brooklyn for senior night at 6:00 PM
