Fordham-Manhattan Live Video After two preseason tilts, the Fordham women's soccer team is ready to start its 2014 regular season this weekend with a pair of contests. The Rams travel to Eastern Michigan for their first game on Friday for a 4:00 PM start, while hosting the "Battle of the Bronx" against Manhattan on Sunday at 5:00 PM.
Friday's contest not only begin the 2014 regular season, but it is also the first regular season game for first year Fordham head coach
Jessica Clinton. Clinton arrived at Rose Hill after serving on the staff of her alma mater, Boston University, for the past six years, first as an assistant coach from 2008-2012 and then as the associate head coach in 2013.
This is the first ever meeting between Fordham and Eastern Michigan, but the second time in the last three years that the Rams have opened the season in the state of Michigan, having played Michigan and Michigan State to open the 2012 season.
Fordham returns eight starters from a year ago and the team's top four scorers, led by fifth-year senior
Kelsey Dougherty Howard and senior
Jessica Widmann. Dougherty Howard led Fordham with four goals and 10 points last season, while Widman tallied three goals and three assists for nine points.
On Sunday, Fordham returns to the friendly confines of Jack Coffey Field for a late Sunday afternoon match-up against the crosstown rival, Manhattan College, for the annual "Battle of the Bronx."
It will be the 22
nd all-time meeting with Fordham holding a 12-8-1 edge in the series. However, the home team has won each of the last four meetings with Manhattan taking a 2-1 overtime win last season at Gaelic Park.
