It was the Rams' first game under new head coach
Jessica Clinton, who was very pleased with the team's effort.
"I thought they played really well. We moved the ball well, and I was asking them to do a lot of different things tonight, controlling tempo, working from left to right, and it was nice to see the newcomers gel so well together," said Clinton.
The Rams outshot the Seahawks over the first 45 minutes of action with senior
Jessica Widmann having three of those opportunities. The best chance of the opening stanza came from junior
Ivana Lahcanski, who looked to lob a shot to the top left corner, but Wagner goalkeeper Katie Marcy was able to snag it out of the air.
Fordham's defensive core, comprised primarily with sophomores for most of the game, limited Wagner to only three shots on the evening, and one scoring opportunity.
"The sophomores are real solid and gel well together," said Clinton following the game. "(Nicole) Bates and (Ally) Doyle are a great tandem in the middle of the backline and work well off each other."
In goal, Fordham split the game between senior
Ally White and sophomore
Megan Fitzgerald each playing a half.
The Rams' final scrimmage contest of the preseason will take place on Sunday, August 17
th, at Army, beginning at 4:30 PM.
