Katelyn Lakes Named CRCA Second Team All-Region

Six Fordham Rowers Named CRCA Scholar-Athletes

Bronx, N.Y. (May 28, 2014) – Fordham University senior Katelyn Lakes was named Second Team All-Region by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA)  it was announced on Tuesday. Additionally, six Fordham student-athletes were named CRCA Scholar-Athletes, the association announced Tuesday.
 
Lakes, who was named First Team All-Atlantic 10 at the conference championships on May 4, is a member of the varsity 8 which finished sixth in the grand finals at the 2014 Dad Vail Championships on May 10. The varsity 8 also won the petite final at the 2014 Atlantic 10 Championships and placed third at the 2014 Kerr Cup.

Lakes, the 2013-14 team MVP, was also a member of the club 4 boat that won gold at the Head of the Charles Regatta last fall, won gold, becoming the first Fordham women's crew to win an event at the prestigious regatta.
 
Rams named to the CRCA Scholar-Athlete team were Jenn Amoroso, Nicole Arrato, MariaLuisa Capuano, Tecla Di Francesco, Megan Feerick and Megan Sullivan. All six are named to the team for the second straight year.
 
Fordham tied with George Mason and Rhode Island for the most selections to the team among Atlantic 10 schools.
 
Amoroso, a senior from Naperville, Ill., who is an Applied Accounting and Finance major, was a member of the second varsity 8 that won bronze at the 2014 Atlantic 10 Championships, took gold at the 2014 Kerr Cup and placed fifth at the Dad Vail Championship. She was also a member of the lightweight 4 that placed fifth at the 2013 Head of the Charles.
 
Arrato, a junior Psychology major from Oxford, Conn., was a member of the varsity 8 that won the petite final at the 2014 Atlantic 10 Championships and took third at the 2014 Kerr Cup and sixth at the Dad Vail Championships.
 
Capuano, a senior from Pawtucket, R.I., who is majoring in Communications, competed with the second varsity 8 that took gold at the 2014 Kerr Cup and bronze at the 2014 Knecht Cup. She was also a member of the varsity 4 that placed sixth at the 2014 Atlantic 10 Championships.
 
Di Francesco, a junior from Sydney, Australia, who is majoring in Psychology, was a member of the varsity 8 that won the petite final at the 2014 Atlantic 10 Championships, third at the Kerr Cup and sixth at the Dad Vail Championships.
 
Feerick, a senior Business Administration major from Massapequa, N.Y., served as coxswain for the second varsity 8 that took gold at the 2014 Kerr Cup and bronze at the 2014 Atlantic 10 Championship and the 2014 Knecht Cup. She was cox of the lightweight 4 that placed fifth at the 2013 Head of the Charles.
 
Sullivan, a senior from Orchard Park, N.Y., who is majoring in English and is a member of Fordham's tenth-ranked lightweight varsity 8, competed with the second varsity 8 which won bronze at the 2014 Atlantic 10 Championships. She also won bronze with the third varsity 8 at the 2014 Knecht and the varsity 4 at the 2014 Kerr Cup.
 
To be eligible for consideration as a CRCA Scholar-Athlete, all rowers must be in their second, third or fourth year of eligibility and maintain a grade point average of at least 3.5 while also competing in at least 75 percent of the team's spring season.
