Rowing Races at Iona Invitational

Varsity 8 and second varsity 8 win gold

New Rochelle, N.Y. (March 30, 2014) – The Fordham University women's rowing squad competed at the Iona Invitational at Glen Island on Sunday where the Rams won the top two varsity races.

The Fordham varsity eight won both of its races, with the first varsity defeating Marist and Fairfield in the first race in a time of 6:40.3, almost six seconds ahead of the second place boat from Marist. The Rams then won the finals going away, finishing in 6:54.84, over 20 seconds ahead of runner up Fairfield and well ahead of Iona.  The varisty 8 was comprised of Fiona Murtagh, Tecla Di Francesco, Maureen White, Katelyn Lakes, Jessica Lajoie, Ashley Hawkesworth, Ashleigh Aitchison and Nicole Arrato with Jacquelyn Ramos at coxswain.

In the second varsity 8, Fordham again won easily, covering the 2K course in 6:57.58, beating Marist and Fairfield to the line. The Fordham third 8 won the second section of the 2V, beating Robert Morris, Lehigh and Iona, posting a faster time than all the other 2Vs except their teammates. The second varsity 8 was comprised of Sossi Megan, Alexandra McDonald, Courtney Cambria, Kasia Wlodarkiewicz, Elizbeth Helmer, MariaLuisa Capuano, Julie Barr and Jenn Amoroso with Megan Feerick as coxswain while the third varsity was comprised of Maura O'donnell, Ali Furneaux, Emily Mohri, Sherry Sanders, Megan Sullivan, Sarah Tully, Elena Wostrel and Caroline Sneider with Linda Mulé at coxswain.

The Fordham novice 8 also competed at the regatta, placing third behind Robert Morris and Fairfield.

In the varsity four race, doubling rowers also won by open water in front of the seocnd Fordham boat and third place Fairfield. The winning varsity 4 was comrised of Maura O'Donnell, Ali Furneaux, Elena Wostrel and Caroline Sneider with Linda Mulé at cox while the othe rvarsity 4 was made up of Emily Mohri, Sherry Sanders, Megan Sullivan and Sarah Tully with Kristen Baker at coxswain.

The Rams return to action on Saturday, April 5, as they compete in the Sacred Heart Invitational in Fairfield, Connecticut.
