Box Score

Lauren Quense made the most of her first career start, blanking Western Carolina and recording the game-winning hit to lead the Rams in a 1-0 victory over the Catamounts.

The freshman from Langhorne, Pa., surrendered no runs and seven hits in seven innings of work and recorded the eventual game winning hit on a single in the fifth inning.

Fordham (5-3) failed to reach base in the top of the first, and Quense surrendered two hits in the bottom of the frame.  But the freshman held tough, keeping Western Carolina (0-6) off the board.

The Rams got their first base runner when Michele Daubman walked in the top of the second and recorded their first hit an inning later when Sydney Canessa singled to left center

Elise Fortier doubled to lead off the top of the fourth, but Western Carolina managed to keep her on second with three consecutive outs.

After Quense blanked the Catamounts in the bottom of the fourth, the Langhorne, Pa., native helped her own cause with an RBI single in the top of the fifth, bringing home Kayla Lombardo and giving the Rams a 1-0 lead.

Following her go-ahead hit, Quense was nearly untouchable in the last three frames, allowing only one hit to seal the victory for Fordham.
