Jackson will receive the Johnny Bach Award, presented annually at the Tip Off Dinner in honor of former Fordham head coach and Hall of Famer, Johnny Bach, who served as an assistant coach to Jackson in Chicago. The award was established by Fordham to annually honor an individual who has had a substantial and lasting impact on the sport of basketball and who best emulates Bach's drive and passion for excellence.
A 1948 graduate of Fordham, Bach is considered one of the sport's leading coaches. A defensive specialist, he was credited with helping Jackson guide the Chicago Bulls to three straight NBA championships. He has the most wins of any coach in the history of Fordham (263-193), and he led the Fordham Rams to five NIT appearances and a pair of NCAA berths during 18 seasons.
Jackson, president of the New York Knicks, led three NBA teams to 11 NBA titles and holds the highest winning percentage of any NBA coach. He also won a pair of titles as a player with the Knicks in 1970 and 1973.
Jackson will be the third recipient of the award, joining Patrick Ewing (2012) and P.J. Carlesimo (2013).
