Shelton, Conn. (October 11, 2014) – The Fordham University rowing squad traveled up to Connecticut to compete in the Head of the Housatonic at Indian Well State Park where the novice 8 took home gold.

The Fordham novice 8 of Caroline Hamann (stroke), Katie Dillon, Jessica Kammen, Leslie Fung, Kristen Shuman, Sarah Hoskin, Ariene Merkle and Maddy Locher with Liz Klotzbach at coxswain covered the course in a time of 16:38, well ahead of runner-up Williams College Boat Club (17:15) and Sacred Heart (17:24).

The Rams top varsity 4 took home bronze medals with a third place finish in a time of 16:55, just behind second place Yale (16:49) but ahead of Radcliffe B and three other Yale shells. The top varsity 4 was comprised of Ashleigh Aitchison (stroke), Tecla Di Francesco, Fiona Murtagh, Ashley Hawkesworth and Caitlin Shershon at coxswain. Since the Collegiate Division I Fours were two and a half hours after the Eights race all the top teams could double up their best rowers. Finishing ahead of some of the elite rowers from two schools that are consistently ranked in the top twenty nationally in Division I gave the Fordham team a real sense of both excitement and pride.

"This was an excellent tune-up for both our fours that are racing at the Head of the Charles next week", said coach Bonanno, "it also indicates we have a great core group for our varsity program for the spring season."

The Rams also entered a B boat of Maura O'Donnell (stroke), Sarah Hoskin, Courtney Cambria and Leslie Fung with Jacquelyn Ramos at cox, in the race with the crew taking 15th (18:00), as well as a C boat of Caroline Hamann (stroke), Nicole Arrato, Sammi Spallani, Kasia Wlodarkiewicz, with Linda Mulé at cox, which took 19th (18:50).

In the varsity 8, the Rams A boat of Aitchinson (stroke), Di Francesco, Cambria, Hawkesworth, Murtagh, Arrato, O'Donnell and Wlodarkiewicz, with Shershon at coxswain, placed 16th in 15:40, while the B boat of Caroline Sneider (Stroke), Sherry Sanders, Jessica LaJoie, Kerry Egan, Kelly Leonard, Amanda Rossi, Celina McCall and Dena Bussa, with Ramos at coxswain, placed 26th (17:05).

The Rams return to action on October 18 as they compete at the Head of the Charles in Boston.
