Sporting a mix of veteran leadership and untested talent, the Fordham golf team opens its Fall 2013 season this weekend, traveling to Hamilton, N.Y., for the Colgate Invitational held at Seven Oaks Country Club.
Â
The tournament will feature 54 holes over the course of two days, with 36 holes coming on Saturday followed by 18 on Sunday.
Â
The Colgate Invitational will pit players from 14 schools against one another as Fordham, Army, Binghamton, Bucknell, Cardinal Stritch, Lafayette, Lehigh, Niagara, Rider, St. Bonaventure, Siena, Wagner, defending team champion Youngstown State and host Colgate will all field teams.
Â
For the Rams, captains Brandon Nolan and Jeff Hogan will lead the team into Colgate. Nolan, a senior, was the Rams' best finisher at the Atlantic 10 Championship last year with a score of two-over par while Hogan, a junior, tied for eighth with a four-under par performance at this summer's Connecticut Open.
Â
In addition to junior Ben Alcorn, who finished third on the team in scoring last spring, the Rams will look to two highly-touted newcomers in their first collegiate tournament. Junior transfer Drew Dufresne, a Chino Hills, Calif., native, comes to Fordham from St. Mary's in California and is expected to play an immediate role on the team. Freshman Fernando Morett, originally from Monterrey, Mexico, tees it up for the Rams following a stellar high school career at the Loyola School in Manhattan.
Â
The Colgate Invitational is the first of seven fall tournaments for the Rams.Â
