The Fordham volleyball squad enjoyed a sensational start to the CCSU Invitational on Friday night in New Britain, Conn., downing NJIT in straight sets. Set scores were 25-19, 25-11 and 25-12, respectively.
The win moves Fordham to 7-6 on the year, while NJIT falls to 2-8.
On the match,
Lisa Hipp led the Rams with 12 kills, but the team as a whole hit an impressive .333.
Brianna O'Neil registered nine kills and hit .400 for the match, while
Brennan Delsing,
Lindsay Ritchie and
Kristen Ostach all chipped in eight a piece Those three Rams hit .250, .429 and .571, respectively.
Fordham grabbed the match's first five points, eventually jumping out to a 16-9 lead following a
Maria Rodenberg service ace. Rodenberg had four aces on the match. From there, NJIT fought back to narrow the Fordham lead to just one at 19-18, but the Rams tallied six of the set's final seven points, taking the opener 25-19.
The Rams absolutely dominated in the second set, controlling the tempo from the get-go. Fordham jumped out to a 20-6 lead on the Highlanders, eventually taking the set 25-11.
Fordham showed no signs of letting up in the third and final set, downing NJIT 25-12 in convincing fashion.
The Rams have two games remaining in the CCSU Invitational on Saturday, facing off against Hartford at 11 AM before taking on CCSU at 6:30 PM.
