After a rough outing on Friday, the Fordham women's soccer team wasted little time deciding Sunday's match-up at Vermont. The Rams netted three first half goals and allowed only four shots, as Fordham shut out the Catamounts, 3-0, at Virtue Field in Burlington, Vermont.
With the win, Fordham improves to 2-4-1, while Vermont falls to 2-4-0.
Fordham didn't wait long to open the scoring in the 15
th minute. On the right side of the field,
Kelley Alpaugh put in some fancy footwork to get around a Vermont defender, putting a cross into the box.
Nicol Natale then won a battle with Vermont goalkeeper Ally Ramos to put in her first collegiate goal with Alpaugh getting the assist.
The Rams made it 2-0 about 15 minutes later off a set piece.
Mary Solimine took a long free kick, which found
Kelsey Dougherty Howard for a header flick into the goal for her second goal of the season.
Fordham then wrapped up the scoring just prior to halftime. Dougherty Howard hit a long pass to
Nicole Bates down the right side. Bates then got around a Vermont defender for a cross, which found
Jessica Widmann for an easy header into the goal for her second tally of the year.
The Fordham defense made that lead hold up, as the Rams gave up only four shots on the afternoon, only one of which was on goal. In net,
Ally White and
Megan Fitzgerald each played a half with Fitzgerald making one save in the second half.
The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Friday, September 20
th, as the Rams travel to Providence for a 4:00 PM match.
