SERIES HISTORY AGAINST DARTMOUTH: This is the second overall meeting between the Big Green and the Rams. Â Last season, in the Bronx, the Big Green came away with a 3-0 victory after scoring all three markers in the opening half.
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST VERMONT: This is the first meeting between the two schools.
LAST TIME OUT: Fordham's Jessica Widmann scored the only goal of the game, while the Fordham defense allowed just six shots, as the Rams earned their first win of the season against the Iona Gaels, 1-0, on Sunday at Jack Coffey Field.
Â
With the win, Fordham improved to 1-3-1, while Iona fell to 1-4-1.
Â
The only goal of the game came in the 26th minute off the foot of Jessica Widmann. Kelsey Dougherty Howard ran the ball down on the right side of the field, lobbing a pass to Maria Lorena Canicatti. A quick touch and a cross by Canicatti found Widmann in the box for a half volley deflection toward the left side of the goal and in for her first tally of the year.
Â
From there, it was all about defense as Fordham kept Iona away from goalkeeper Ally White, giving up just six shots, none of which were on goal. For White, it was her fourth career shutout.
Â
The Rams outshot Iona, 15-6, in the contest with Iona netminder Trista Rivera making four saves.
WHO'S NEXT: Following this weekend, the Fordham women's soccer team wraps up a three-match road trip at Providence on Friday, September 20th at 4:00 PM. The Rams then return home for a match-up with Princeton on September 24th.
