Eight Fordham Rowers Named CRCA Scholar-Athletes

May 29, 2013 - Bronx, N.Y. - A school-record eight Fordham student-athletes were named Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Scholar-Athletes, the association announced Tuesday.

Rams named to the team were Jenn Amoroso, Nicole Arrato, MariaLuisa Capuano, Tecla Di Francesco, Megan Feerick, Rachel Sortino, Jillian Stackman, and Megan Sullivan.

Fordham led all Atlantic 10 school with the eight selections, followed by Dayton who had seven and Charlotte with six. Nationally, the Rams tied for fourth overall with the eight honorees, behind Kansas State and Marist, who each had 13; Notre Dame and Oklahoma (with ten each); and Drexel, Oregon State, Stanford and Texas, who had nine rower named to the list.

Amoroso, a junior from Naperville, Ill., who is an Applied Accounting and Finance major, was a member of the lightweight 4 that finished fourth at the Dad Vail Championship as well as the second varsity 8 that won the petite final at the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championships on May 4 and took sixth at the Murphy Cup.

Arrato, a sophomore Psychology major from Oxford, Conn., was a member of the second varsity 8 that won the petite final at the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championships on May 4 and took second at the 2013 Kerr Cup.

Capuano, a junior from Pawtucket, R.I., who is majoring in Communications, competed with the lightweight 4 that finished fourth at the Dad Vail Championship as well as the second varsity 8 that won the petite final at the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championships on May 4 and also rowed with the at the Murphy Cup varsity lightweight 4 that placed second.

Di Francesco, a sophomore from Sydney, Australia, who is majoring in Psychology, was a member of the second varsity 8 that won the petite final at the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championships on May 4 and sixth at the Murphy Cup.

Feerick, a junior Business Administration major from Massapequa, N.Y., served as coxswain for the lightweight 4 that finished fourth at the Dad Vail Championship and the varsity 4 that took fourth in its heat at the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championships on May 4.

Sortino, a sophomore from Omaha, Neb., and Chemistry major, was coxswain for the varsity 8, leading the boat to a third place showing in the petite final at the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championships on May 4 and the varsity 4 which took fifth at the Ker Cup.

Stackman, a sophomore Business Administration major from South Burlington, Vt., rowed with the second varsity 8 that won the petite final at the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championships on May 4 and the junior varsity 8 that finished sixth at the Murphy Cup.

Sullivan, a junior from Orchard Park, N.Y., who is majoring in English, competed with the lightweight 4 that finished fourth at the Dad Vail Championship and second at the Murphy Cup as well as the varsity 4 which placed fourth in its heat at the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championships on May 4 and fifth at the Kerr Cup.

To be eligible for consideration as a CRCA Scholar-Athlete, all rowers must be in their second, third or fourth year of eligibility and maintain a grade point average of at least 3.5 while also competing in at least 75 percent of the team's spring season.
