The eyes of the golfing world may have been focused on a quaint little track in Northeastern Georgia this weekend, but the Fordham golf team was out on the links. The Rams took part in the New England Golf Championships held at Newport National Country Club in Middletown, R.I., taking seventh place out of nine teams.
The University of Connecticut won the team title with a 12 over par effort. URI finished 12 strokes behind UConn in second place, while Hartford, Bryant and Central Connecticut rounded out the top five.
Jason Del Rosso paced the way for the Rams once again, shooting a combined five over par for the tournament, earning a tie for eighth place. The Orlando, Fla., native shot two over on Saturday and then followed that up with a three-over 75 on Sunday.
Ben Alcorn also played well for the Rams in Rhode Island, shooting back-to-back 77's to finish tied for 18th place.
Brandon Nolan finished one stroke behind Alcorn, posting a 77 and a 78 to finish his two rounds at 11 over par (38th).
Brody Nieporte and Jeff Hogan rounded out the action for the Rams at Newport National. Nieporte shot 16 over par to put himself in 33rd, while Hogan shot +23 for the weekend.
The Rams have one more tournament before the A-10 Championship, taking part in the Peacock Invitational in Neshanic Station, N.J., on Tuesday, April 23rd.
