East Rutherford, N.J. (November 27, 2013) – This seems to be a week of firsts for the Fordham University football squad. On Saturday, the Rams won their eleventh game for the first time in school history while on Sunday Fordham found out it would host its first ever NCAA Division I Football Championship game this Saturday. Then on Monday the Rams received three of the four major Patriot League postseason awards for the first time and in keeping with the theme today, the Rams experienced another first, a first ever practice at the New York Giants indoor practice facility.
Thanks to the generosity of John Mara, LAW '79, president of the New York Giants and son of the late Wellington Mara, FCRH '37, the Rams were able to escape the elements of a winter storm that blew through the metropolitan area, bringing heavy rains and strong winds.
"We are very thankful for the generosity of Mr. Mara and the entire New York Giants organization," said Fordham head coach
Joe Moorhead. "To be able to get out of the elements and have a productive practice is very helpful to our program."
Mara welcomed the team prior to practice and let them know that they have a fan in East Rutherford, N.J. "I've been following the success of the team all year and I'm very proud of what you have done. When we travel on Saturdays, the first thing I do when I get off the plane is check the score of the Fordham game."
A couple of Rams also had a chance to catch up with friends as defensive coordinator David Blackwell spoke with Giants linebacker Jacquian Williams, who played for Blackwell when he was the co-defensive coordinator and linebacker coach at South Florida, and Branden Fields was paid a visit during practice by Giant cornerback Corey Webster, a fellow Louisiana native who is friends with the Fields family.
