With two teams looking to bounce back from tough Friday night matches, the Fordham Rams and Saint Joseph's Hawks laid it all out on the line on Sunday afternoon at Jack Coffey Field. With a combined 36 shots and 23 corner kicks, the Rams and Hawks could only manage one goal each, resulting in a 1-1 tie in double overtime.
With the tie, Fordham is now 3-6-3 overall, 1-1-1 in the Atlantic 10, while Saint Joseph's moved to 4-5-3 on the year, 0-1-1 in the league.
The first half saw Saint Joseph's take the initial lead late in the period. In the 44th minute, Fordham looked to clear the ball out of its own end, but a mishit left the Hawks' Morgan Duffy with the ball near the top of the box. Duffy lined up a shot from 30 yards, sneaking a skip shot just inside the left post for her second goal of the season.
Fordham responded with the tying goal in the second half in the 54th minute. Fordham's
Kelsey Dougherty Howard cut across the right side, sliding a pass toward goal.
Nicole Bates got a header on it, scoring her first collegiate goal to the left side of the net from eight yards out.
From there, the team defenses put the lockdown on any further scoring, despite countless corner kicks and shot attempts.
In net, Fordham's
Megan Fitzgerald came up with four saves, while Lauren Jancuska had seven stops for the Hawks.
The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Friday, October 11th, when the Rams play at VCU, beginning at 5:00 PM.
