After close to a month between home games, the Fordham men's soccer team returned home to Jack Coffey Field on Friday night to host an all-important Atlantic 10 showdown against the Massachusetts Minutemen.  The home crowd would be satisfied with the finish, as Andrew Hickey's goal in the 53rd minute gave Fordham a 1-0 win over UMass.

With the win, Fordham improved to 4-8-1 overall, 1-2-1 in the Atlantic 10, while Massachusetts fell to 2-11-1 on the year, 1-3-0 in the league.

After a scoreless first half, the Rams took advantage of an early opportunity, as Tommy Granot was fouled outside the box, approximately 20-plus yards away on the right side.  Andrew Hickey would line up the free kick, and bent a shot inside the bottom left corner for his second goal of the season.

The Fordham defense would frustrate the UMass attack over the next 30-plus minutes, as the Minutemen searched for the equalizer.  UMass' uphill climb got worse in the 79th minute, when Nigel Negm was issued a red card, forcing the Minutemen to play down a man.

The Rams would keep the clean sheet, as goalkeeper Alex Naples made four saves for his third shutout of the season.

The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, October 27th, when the Rams host Rhode Island for an Atlantic 10 match, beginning at 1:00 PM.
