Men’s Soccer Draws at St. Bonaventure

Rams play shorthanded for 89 minutes

St. Bonaventure, N.Y. – If today's Atlantic 10 men's soccer match between Fordham and St. Bonaventure were a prize fight, it would have featured two combatants who, upon hearing the bell, immediately started trading punches. For the first 30 minutes of today's match, there were four goals scored and one red card given before things settled down and the Rams settled for a 2-2 draw  with the Bonnies at the Tom 80' and Michelle Marra Athletics Field Complex.

With the tie, Fordham stands at 4-4-2 overall, 2-0-1 in the Atlantic 10, while St. Bonaventure is now 3-4-3 overall, 1-1-1 in the conference.

The exchange of knocks started early as Jason Hsu was called for a red card after a foul in the box a little over a minute into the match. The Bonnies took advantage of the call, scoring on the ensuing penalty kick for a 1-0 lead.

More importantly, the red card meant the Rams would play a man down for the rest of the match.

The Rams came back 20 minutes later when a Nico Linares shot was saved by the St. Bonaventure keeper but Sam Delgado jumped on the re bound and buried it from ten years to tie the score at one.

About seven minutes later, in the 29th minute, the Rams took a 2-1 lead as Bruno Cellerino looped a pass into the box for Delgado, who deflated it over the Bonnies keeper to the far side for his second goal if the game.

The lead didn't last long as St. Bonaventure got the equalizer less than a minute later.

But the Rams held firm in the second half, despite being outshot 9-2 over the final 45 minutes.
