Rowing Competes at Head of the Housatonic

Novice 4, Novice 8 and Varsity 4 all bring home medals

The Fordham University rowing squad competed at the 2013 Head of the Housatonic on the Housatonic River in Shelton, Conn. on Saturday with the novice 4, novice 8 and varsity 4 all winning medals. It marked the first time the Rams have ever medaled in a women's varsity event at the regatta.

The varsity 4 won the bronze medal, behind two Yale shells but six seconds up on A-10 rival U Mass which finished fifth. The Rams also had a second and third shell in the varsity 4 which placed ninth and twelfth of fifteen entries.

The novice 8 took home silver, placing second behind Northeastern. The Huskies won the race in a time of 16:30.9, followed by Fordham (17:21.6), Massachusetts (17:30.8) and Williams (17:38.6). There were five other teams in this event.

The frosh/novice 4 won gold medals beating Schenectady County by just over two seconds, covering the course in a time of 20:40.3.

In the varsity 8, the Rams entry placed tenth in 16:20.3, just 1.7 seconds behind Massachusetts A. The Fordham B and C entries finished eighteenth and twenty-second.

The Rams will return to action on Saturday and Sunday, October 19 and 20, as they compete in the Head of the Charles in Boston.
