Amherst, Mass. - (Feb. 2, 2008) - The Fordham swimming & diving teams split their meet with UMass today, as the women (8-1) won 186-112, while the men (4-4) fell by a 185-112 score.
The women won 12 events on the afternoon, which included both relays as well as three dual event winners. The 200 medley relay consisting of Christina Cosentino, Nicole Marshall, Caitlin Napoli, and Tressa Dunn, opened the meet with a win in 1:49.14, while the 200 freestyle relay of Dunn, Napoli, Amanda Irving, and Amanda Ciccone, won in 1:39.59.
Cosentino, Marshall, and Napoli then proceeded to win multiple individual events. Cosentino won the 100 and 200 backstroke in 58.37 and 2:06.97, respectively, while Marshall won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke in 1:06.62 and 2:22.62, respectively, and the 200 individual medley in 2:11.64. Napoli then won both butterfly events in 59.93 (100 fly) and 2:06.68 (200 fly).
Fordham then won both distance freestlye events as well as the 100 freestyle. Dunn took the 100 freestyle in 53.57, while Emily Wojdyla won the 500 freestyle in 5:09.71 and Anne Conroy took the 1000 freestyle in 10:32.73.
In the men's competition, Fordham had just two event winners on the day.
Ryan Coombs won the 500 freestyle in 4:44.55, while
Sean Terry took the 200 breaststroke in 2:09.96.
The Fordham swimming & diving teams will next be in action on Wednesday, February 6th, as they host St. Francis College at 6:00 PM.
