Williamstown, Mass. - (Dec. 6, 2008) - In their final swim meet before exams, the Fordham swimming & diving teams split their dual meet with Boston College and Williams College on Saturday afternoon in Williamstown, Massachusetts. On the women's side, Fordham defeated Boston College, 190.5-109.5, but lost to Williams, 152-147, while the Fordham men topped Williams, 162-134, and fell to Boston College, 159-139.
With the split, the Fordham women are now 6-2 on the season, while the Fordham men are now 4-3 overall.
Fordham had five multiple event winners on the afternoon, three on the men's side. Junior Justin Coombs led the way, winning the 50 freestyle in 21.70 seconds and 100 freestyle in 46.95 seconds, both in season-best times. Sophomore Billy Colton swept the backstroke events in 53.34 seconds (100 back) and 1:56.57 (200 back), with senior Ben Otto sweeping the diving events with scores of 262.35 (1M) and 271.50 (3M).
Junior Ryan Coombs also won an individual event in the 200 freestyle in 1:44.61. In the relays, the 200 medley relay team of Colton, Sean McManus, R. Coombs, and J. Coombs finished first in a season-best time of 1:36.52, while the 400 freestyle relay of R. Coombs, Eric Prendergast, Colton, and J. Coombs placed first in a season-best time of 3:08.49.
For the women, juniors Caitlin Napoli and Nicole Marshall each won two events. Napoli won the 200 freestyle in 1:55.00 and the 500 freestyle in 5:07.67, while Marshall swept the breaststroke events in 1:06.99 (100) and 2:25.50 (200).
Fordham had four other event winners, as sophomore Christina Cosentino won the 100 backstroke in 58.69 seconds, while junior Tressa Dunn took the 100 freestyle in 53.73 seconds. Freshman Elizabeth Dorger won the one-meter dive with a season-best score of 265.00, while fellow freshman Andrea Krok won the three-meter dive with a score of 254.25.
The Fordham swimming & diving team will now be off until January 23rd and 24th. On January 23rd, the Fordham women will host C.W. Post at 6:00 PM, while on January 24th, both the Fordham men and women will host La Salle at 1:00 PM.
