Bronx, N.Y. – For the second straight year the Fordham University women's tennis squad has been named the number one seed at the Betterment Atlantic 10 Championships. The Rams will open play on Thursday, April 23, in the quarterfinals against the winner of #8 Dayton and #9 Duquesne at the USTA National Academy in Orlando, Fla.
Fordham, the 2023 Atlantic 10 champions, enter the A-10 Championship on a nine-match winning streak, winning each of the nine matches by a 4-0 score. Overall the Rams finished the regular season with a 13-9 record.
Fordham will be led into the championship by senior
Nevena Kolarevic, the reigning Atlantic 10 Performer of the Year, who won a pair of matches at the ITA All-American competition, the first player from Fordham University to win an ITA All-American match. She also won the Atlantic 10 Master Singles title last fall and went on to win three matches at the ITA Masters Championship in November. Kolarevic also became the first Fordham tennis student-athlete to compete at the NCAA Championships when she teamed with
Julianne Nguyen to play in the doubles the championship last November.
Sophomores
Catalina Padilla and
Paola Dalmonico and rookie
Valerija Kargina are also having strong seasons for the Rams, with each compiling 21 singles wins while junior
Lily Chitambar has 20.
Last year the Rams advanced to the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Championship for the fourth time over the past five years before falling to eventual A-10 champions, VCU, 4-2.
