Baseball Continues A-10 Play Against Richmond This Weekend

Rams Welcome Spiders to Houlihan Park for Three Games

Bronx, N.Y. – (March 19, 2026) – After starting a nine-game homestand with a win on Wednesday, the Fordham baseball team (9-10, 2-1 Atlantic 10) continues action at Houlihan Park this weekend with a three-game Atlantic 10 series against the Richmond Spiders (11-10, 0-3 Atlantic 10).

  • Saturday: Fordham – RHP Chase Hanawalt (1-3) vs. Richmond – LHP Joey Giordano (4-0)

SERIES HISTORY
  • Fordham and Richmond have been regular opponents since 2002, but the first meeting between the two teams came in 1923.The series has been fairly even with Richmond holding a slight 24-23 edge.The Rams though have won five of the last six meetings over the last two seasons, which included a three-game sweep of the Spiders in Richmond last season.
FORDHAM NEWS & NOTES
  • The Rams are 7-2 in their last nine games, scoring at least six runs in eight of those nine contests.
  • Fordham has scored 96 runs in that stretch (10.6/game), while batting .300 as a team with 12 home runs and 33 stolen bases.
  • Tommy McAndrews has been red hot in the last nine games, batting .452 with 10 runs scored, four home runs and 17 RBI.  He has also worked his was into a tie for 11th on Fordham's all-time home runs list (21 – Jerry Curley – 1984-87).
  • Taylor Kirk and Tommy Markey have been the catalysts at the top and bottom of the order in the last nine games.  Markey is batting .343 with 14 runs scored and fve stolen bases, while Kirk has a .333 average with 15 runs scored, 11 RBI, and eight stolen bases.
  • Mason Dean was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, after hitting safely in all five games for the Rams last week.  He batted .533 (8-15) with seven runs scored, two doubles, a home run, seven RBI, and three stolen bases.
  • Chase Hanawalt has been a strikeout machine in his last two starts, recording back-to-back 10-strikeout games, which including a career-high 13 at Davidson on March 14th.
  • Freshmen Andrew Kapica and Declan Cawley have also put up strong numbers in their first season on the mound.  Kapica is 2-1 with a 2.87 ERA and 19 strikeouts in eight relief appearances, while Cawley has a 2.76 ERA, 16 strikeouts and a save in seven appearances.
  • Aric Berg has been a shutdown closer for Fordham with three saves in six appearances, recording 10 strikeouts and a 2.57 ERA.
OPPONENT OUTLOOK
  • Richmond is 11-10 on the season after topping Maryland, 7-5, on Tuesday, but are 0-3 in the Atlantic 10, following a sweep against the Saint Joseph's Hawks.
  • The Spiders are batting .265 as a team with 23 home runs and 53 stolen bases on the season.
  • Dylan Winebrenner and Michael Elko head up the Spiders' offense.Winebrenner is batting a team-best .337 with six home runs and 15 RBI, while Elko is at .324 on the year with 17 runs scored, 17 RBI, and 11 stolen bases.
  • Joey Giordano is off to a great start on the mound with a 4-0 record, a 2.70 ERA, and 30 strikeouts for the Spiders.

  • Following this weekend, the Rams keep the homestand rolling with a mid-week game against Wagner (March 25) and a three-game series with Saint Joseph's (March 27-29).
