St. Bonaventure, N.Y. – Unlike the weather in the Bronx today, the sun was shining in St. Bonaventure for today's Atlantic 10 women's soccer match between Fordham and St. Bonaventure. The only thing raining at it was still raining at the Tom 80' and Michelle Marra Athletics Field Complex was Ram goals as Fordham exploded for five tallies, three from senior
Riley Carroll, as the Rams blanked the Bonnies, 5-0.
With the win, Fordham improves to 4-6-1 overall, 1-3-0 in the Atlantic 10, while St. Bonaventure falls to 3-7-1, 0-4-0.
Riley recorded her first career hat trick, a natural hat trick as she scored the final three goals of the game, and the first for a Ram since
Liina Tervo scored three times against UAlbany on August 25, 2024.
The Rams broke the scoreless tie in the 29th minute when
Julia Acosta picked up a loose ball just over midfield, dribbled to just outside the box and got off a blast that beat the Bonnies keeper to the top right corner.
Seven minutes later, Lina Müller dribbled to the endline before sending the ball across the crease to a wide open
Liv Johnsen who tapped it into the open net.
The 2-0 score held until the 63
rd minute when Carroll scored her first of the game, sprinting down the right sideline before cutting to the middle and getting off a shot from 15 yards that curved into the top left corner of the net.
Eleven minutes later, Carroll picked up her second tally when a
Salma Simonin pass sent her in on goal alone and she beat the Bonnies keeper on the ground from 12 yards.
Riley made it a natural hat trick in the 87
th minute as
Liv Johnsen took a long feed on the right and crossed the ball into the box to Riley who one-timed it from eight yards.
