Box Score Riverside, R.I. – The Fordham women's tennis squad kept its winning streak alive today, extending it five matches, with a 4-0 shutout of the University of Rhode Island at the Centre Court Club.
"It was a solid performance against a very aggressive URI squad," said Fordham head coach
Michael Sowter. "It's a great feeling to see our effort come together, and we couldn't have done it without the support and teamwork from everyone involved."
Fordham opened the match winning the doubles point, taking both completed doubles matches.
Nevena Kolarevic and
Julianne Nguyen won at first doubles over URI's Katharina Spieth and Nikki Fernando, 6-3, while
Paola Ueno Dalmonico and
Catalina Padilla Udaeta clinched the doubles point for the visiting Rams with a 6-4 win at third doubles over Klara Nelander and Sophie Herrman.
The Rams then won the first three completed singles matches, all in straight sets, for the 4-0 win. Kolarevic took first singles from Spieth, 6-1, 6-1, Nguyen upended Herrman at the second position, 6-4, 6-1, and Bergmann won at third singles over Fernando, 6-2, 7-6(3).
