Box Score Bronx, N.Y. – After seeing its three-match winning streak snapped yesterday, the Fordham women's tennis squad got back on track tonight, defeating the University of Stony Brook Seawolves, 5-2, at Cary Leeds Center.
Fordham opened the match winning the doubles point, taking both completed doubles matches. Fordham's
Lorraine Bergmann and
Lily Chitambar started things off with a 6-0 win at second doubles over Stony Brook's Kristi Boro and Lorin Tilipman and then
Paola Ueno Dalmonico and
Catalina Padilla Udaeta clinched the point for the Rams with a 6-2 win over Sara Annamaria Medved and Cornelia Bruu-Syverson at third doubles.
The Rams then won four of the six singles matches for the 5-2 win.
Nevena Kolarevic took first singles from Mia Palladino in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2, while
Julianne Nguyen defeated Tilipman at second singles, taking the first set, 6-2, before dropping the second by the same score. Nguyen was leading 5-2 in the third set when Tilipman retired.
Lily Chitambar and
Sofie Siem accounted to the other two singles wins with Chitambar upending Bruu-Syverson at the fourth position, 7-5, 6-3, and Siem rallying after dropping the first set at sixth singles to Mila Charles, 7-6(5),to win the second, 6-1, and the third, 6-3.
