Baseball Heads Back to N.C. for Four Games

Rams to Play Four Games at the USA Baseball National Training Complex This Weekend

Bronx, N.Y. – (February 20, 2025) – The Fordham baseball team makes its second trip to the Raleigh-Cary, North Carolina area this weekend for four games hosted at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary.

The weather forecast continues to play havoc with this weekend's schedule.  As of Thursday, Fordham is set to play Harvard on Friday, February 21st at 2:00 PM, followed by a Saturday, February 22nd game against Indiana at 5:00 PM.  Fordham will then wrap up the weekend with a doubleheader versus Northwestern on Sunday, February 23rd, starting at 9:30 AM.  That doubleheader is slated for a seven-inning game followed by a nine-inning affair

The Rams (0-3) opened the season last weekend at N.C. State, dropping all three contests to the Wolfpack.  As for the Rams' opponents this weekend, Friday is Harvard's season opener, while Indiana is 0-4 after four losses at the College Baseball Classic in Surprise, Arizona.  Northwestern is 2-1 after winning their series at Long Beach State.

PROBABLE STARTERS:
Friday: Fordham – RHP Aidan Dowd (0-1, 16.20 ERA) vs. Harvard – LHP Brian Dowling (0-0)
Saturday: Fordham – RHP Robbie Stewart (0-0, 5.40 ERA) vs. Indiana – RHP Gavin Seebold (0-1, 9.00 ERA)
Sunday (G1): Fordham – RHP Mike Rabayda (0-1, 13.50 ERA) vs. Northwestern – RHP Garrett Shearer (1-0, 3.00 ERA)
Sunday (G2): Fordham – TBD vs. Northwestern – TBD

SERIES HISTORY: The Rams and Harvard Crimson will meet for the first time since 1936, and 11th meeting overall.  The teams have met ten times previously with Harvard taking seven of ten meetings.  The most notable games came with the stakes of a color on the line, as Fordham and Harvard both claimed magenta as their team color, and it was improper for two teams to use the same color.  It was decided the winner of a series of baseball games would get the color.  In a twist despite the result of the games, neither team currently uses magenta, as Harvard now uses crimson, while Fordham has maroon as its primary color.

Fordham and Indiana have only one prior meeting, which came during the 1987 season, when the Hoosiers posted an 8-2 win in Deland, Florida.

Sunday is slated as the first-ever games between Fordham and Northwestern.

QUICK HITS: A trio of Rams, Anthony Grabau, Matt Dieguez, and Caden Young each hit their first career home runs on February 15th.  Grabau did so in his first career at bat, while for Young, it came in his second career game… Young almost matched his father, Colin, on the accomplishment.  Colin, who played for the Rams in the late 1990s, hit a home run in his first career game back in 1998… Dieguez had a career-high three RBI in the series finale at N.C. State and was his first career multi-RBI game.

HELLO, MY NAME IS…: After welcoming 17 new players in 2023 and 18 in 2024, Fordham has 17 newcomers on the 2025 squad, headed up by five graduate transfers and 12 freshmen.

MORE SCHEDULE UPDATES: The Fordham-Iona baseball game scheduled for February 19th has been moved to February 26th.

WHO'S NEXT: The Rams will have their home opener on Wednesday, February 26th, against Iona at Houlihan Park with game time slated for 3:00 PM.  After that mid-week contest, Fordham will head to FAU for a three-game series in Boca Raton, Florida, February 28-March 2.
