Staten Island, N.Y. – (August 29, 2024) – Fordham's
Abby Borchers scored her first goal as a Ram on Thursday night, as the Rams played to a 1-1 draw with the Wagner Seahawks at Hameline Field on Staten Island.
With the draw, Fordham moves to 3-0-1 on the year, marking the first time in program history that the Rams are unbeaten in their first four games.
Fordham controlled possession for most of the first half and was rewarded in the 35
th minute with the opening goal of the game.
Liina Tervo cut inside toward the top of the box for a blast from distance that Wagner goalkeeper Sam Hughes pushed up and hit the crossbar. The rebound bounced right to
Abby Borchers, who headed home her first goal as a Ram.
In the second half, Wagner knotted the game at one in the 67
th minute. As the ball bounced around in the box, Fordham's attempted clearance was picked up by Alana Goldsmith and blasted inside the left post for her first goal from 25 yards out.
The Rams had a golden opportunity to regain the lead in the 79
th minute as Fordham was awarded a penalty kick. Borchers took the penalty but Hughes was able to get a hand on it and push it aside.
Ryann Lucas put the rebound back in front, however, Hughes grabbed the ball to end the threat.
Hughes was credited with six saves as the match ended as a 1-1 draw.
Fordham will next be in action on Sunday, September 1st, when the Rams travel to Fairfield for a 6:00 PM match.
