BRONX, N.Y. – Getting the chance to represent one's home flag sits amongst one of the highest achievements for any athlete. Ahead of her collegiate debut on Rose Hill this fall, Fordham University women's basketball's Precious Omoshola will get the chance to do just that as she was selected to the Great Britain National Team for FIBA U-20 Women's EuroBasket 2024, Division B competition July 6-14 in Sofia, Bulgaria.
"It is such an honor to be afforded the opportunity to play for your national team!" said Fordham Head Coach Bridgette Mitchell. "We are so excited for Precious and her family back in the UK! And her Ramily will be tuned in and supporting her from the U.S. as we continue preparing for the upcoming season."
FIBA U-20 Women's EuroBasket 2024 will see 15 teams across four groups vye for both a title and a bid into next summer's FIBA U-20 Women's EuroBasket tournament.
Omoshola and Great Britain make up one-third of Group D, along with Romania and the Netherlands, with group play making up the first three days of action July 6-8, playing each team once before a rest day on July 9. Classification games will be held from there based on group play results, ahead of the final on July 14.
Great Britain will begin play with a pair of Group Stage games, taking on the Netherlands this Sunday, July 7 at 8:30 a.m. EST and Romania Monday, July 8 at 11:00 a.m. EST with both games available to watch on YouTube Live.
"Being selected for the GB U-20 squad was really a dream come true," said Omoshola. "It has always been one of my goals to be able to play for my national team and here I am, playing for GB U-20s. I am forever grateful to my coaches for giving me this opportunity to play for them. This opportunity has not only allowed me to grow as an athlete but it has also allowed me to grow as a person as well. It has taught me a lot of things that I will now carry into Fordham for the upcoming season. With prayer and determination, anything is possible"
