Anlin Xie was named the Atlantic 10 Co-Most Outstanding Rookie Performer it was announced today. Additionally, Xie was joined by senior
Eleni Fasoula in being named First Team All-Atlantic 10.
Xie, who is the second Ram to be named Atlantic 10 Co-Most Outstanding Rookie Performer joining Ioana Dragan who received the award in 1999, closed out her rookie campaign with a 19-7 singles record, 6-2 at third singles. She was named the team's Player of the Year Award after leading the squad with 19 singles wins. Xie had notable wins over University of Pennsylvania, Cornell University, Brown University and the University of Massachusetts, and clinched the final match against Davidson College in the A-10 quarterfinals.
Xie also played the majority of the season at #1 doubles with
Raffaela Alhach, picking up 13 doubles wins.
Fasoula earned All-Atlantic 10 honors for the third straight year as well as being named the team MVP. She was 18-12 on the year in singles action, playing mostly at the third and fourth positions. Her 18 singles wins was second best on the team. Fasoula won two singles matches at the Atlantic 10 Championship (her first match was stopped when the Rams clinched the match).
Fasoula was also 16-11 in doubles play, tying for the team lead in doubles wins. She mostly teamed with Xiaowei Hu, compiling an 11-5 mark, mostly at second doubles. The two paired up to win all three matches at the Atlantic 10 Championship.
