Baseball Heads to William & Mary for Three Games

Weekend Schedule Adjusted to a Friday Doubleheader at 2:00 PM Plus Sunday Game

Bronx, N.Y. – (March 7, 2024) – Weather continues to be a factor for the Fordham baseball team and will once again cause changes to the team's schedule this weekend as the Rams head to William & Mary for a three-game series in Virginia.  With inclement weather expected on Saturday, the Rams and Tribe will play a 2:00 PM doubleheader on Friday with a 1:00 PM game on Sunday.

Fordham (2-9) looks to snap a four-game slide this weekend following a 4-1 loss to Marist on Wednesday, while William & Mary (8-4) is also on a bit of a slide, having lost its last three contests.

PROBABLE WEEKEND STARTERS:
Friday (Game 1) – Fordham – RHP Declan Lavelle (1-1) at William & Mary – RHP Nathan Knowles (1-0)
Friday (Game 2) - Fordham – TBA at William & Mary – RHP Reed Interdonato (1-0)
Sunday – Fordham – RHP Koen Smith (0-0) at William & Mary – Alex Markus (0-1)

SERIES HISTORY: Both Fordham and William & Mary have long, rich baseball traditions dating back to the 19th century, however the two schools have only met one time on April 7, 1913, which ended in a 13-2 win for Fordham, and saw the Rams steal 12 bases in that contest, while team captain Tom Kehoe threw a complete game, three-hitter with nine strikeouts.

OPPONENT OUTLOOK: Despite a recent three-game losing streak to Boston College, Sacred Heart, Old Dominion, William & Mary has had a good start to the 2024 season with an 8-4.  The Tribe is batting .287 as a team with Joe de los Santos as the top bat, hitting .420 with four home runs and 15 RBI.  William & Mary boasts a total of six .300 hitters and four with at least 13 RBI.  On the mound, the team has a modest 3.45 ERA with Nate Knowles at the top of the rotation.  He is 1-0 with a 1.38 ERA and 23 strikeouts in four starts.

LAST TIME OUT (3/6): Marist's Ethan Conrad and Marco Ali each drove in a pair of runs to lead the Red Foxes to a 4-1 baseball win over the Fordham Rams.

The teams traded runs in the first inning for a 1-1 score.  Johnny Decker reached on a one-out double for Marist, stole third, and scored on a ground out by Ethan Conrad.  Fordham scored its run on an RBI-single by Andrew Kanellis, scoring Daniel Bucciero, who had singled and stole second.

The score stayed tied until the sixth, when Conrad knocked in his second run of the game for the Red Foxes with a single through the right side, scoring Decker from second.  Marist added to their lead in the eighth, scoring twice on a two-run double by Marco Ali, for the 4-1 final.

WHO'S NEXT: The Rams return to Houlihan Park for their next contest on Wednesday, March 13th against Wagner, starting at 3:00 PM.
