Lake Charles, La. – The Fordham women's tennis team continued its spring break trip down south with a 70 win over Loyola University New Orleans, the 12
th-ranked NAIA school, at the City Park/Pepsi Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon.
The match opened with the Rams winning the doubles point, taking two of the three doubles matches.
Xiaowei Hu and
Eleni Fasoula downed Loyola's Lucy Carpenter and Fatima Vasquez at first doubles, 6-2, and
Julianne Nguyen and
Franny Shea were victorious at second doubles, 7-5, over Micaela Ponce/Ariana Salgueiro-Estela.
Fordham then won the match by winning all six singles matches, five in straight sets. Fasoula picked up the first singles win for the Rams, defeating Chloe Henderson, 6-0, 6-2, at third singles before
Raffaela Alhach defeated Lucy Carpenter, 6-2, 6-1, at the first position.
Xintong Zhou clinched the match for Fordham with a 6-0, 6-3, win over Vasquez at fourth singles and Hu made it a 5-0 match with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at second singles over Micaela Ponce (LUNO) 6-4, 6-1.
Shea took fifth singles from Adele Fereres 7-6 (3), 6-3, and Nguyen completed the sweep with a 1-6, 6-3, 11-9, decision at the sixth spot over Avery Frierson.
