Beaumont, Texas – The Fordham University women's tennis team opened its spring break trip to Texas and Louisiana with a 6-1 win over Lamar University on Tuesday at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
Fordham opened the match by taking the doubles point, winning both completed doubles matches.
Franny Shea and
Julianne Nguyen got things started for the Rams with a 6-2 win at third doubles over Lamar's Martina Alcaino and Elena Rubio and
Xiaowei Hu and
Eleni Fasoula clinched the point with a 6-3 victory over Jayci Wong and Marika Mueller at the second position.
The Rams then took five of the six singles matches, four in straight sets, for the 6-1 win. Hu opened the Fordham singles scoring with a 6-0, 6-0, decision over Megan Do before the Cardinals picked up a point with a win at fourth singles.
Xintong Zhou gave Fordham a 3-1 lead with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Nouray Metwally at the fifth spot and
Anlin Xie clinched the match for the Rams with a 6-4, 6-3 win at third singles over Rubio.
Shea, with a win at sixth singles, and
Raffaela Alhach, who took first singles winning the tiebreaker in the third set, 7-4, accounted for the final two Fordham points.
