Baseball Heads to Stony Brook on Wednesday

Game Time Changed to 2:00 PM Start

Bronx, N.Y. – (March 26, 2024) – After dropping two of three contests to St. John's, the Fordham baseball team continues its spring break road swing on Wednesday, traveling to Stony Brook for a 2:00 PM game.  This is an updated game time from the original schedule.

This is the final game before Fordham begins Atlantic 10 play this weekend, as the Rams look to get back on track after Monday's 8-2 loss at St. John's.  Stony Brook is looking for its third straight win after defeating Iona, 8-2 on Tuesday afternoon.

SERIES HISTORY: Wednesday will be the 24th all-time meeting between Fordham and Stony Brook with the Seawolves holding an 18-5 series lead.  Last season, Stony Brook took an 8-4 decision from Fordham at Houlihan Park.  Previously, Fordham had won the last two meetings in 2016 and 2021.

OPPONENT OUTLOOK: Entering Wednesday, Stony Brook is 11-12 on the campaign after defeating Iona, 8-2.  The Seawolves got a fantastic pitching performance in that game from Colin Rhein, allowing just two unearned runs over 8.1 innings of work with five strikeouts, while taking advantage of six Iona errors in the game.  Matt Brown-Eiring leads the Seawolves in hitting at .348 with eight doubles and 17 RBI, while Erik Paulsen is batting .319 with six doubles and 12 RBI.

LAST TIME OUT (3/25): St. John's Mario Pesca struck out eight over 6.2 innings, while Jackson Tucker had three hits and three runs scored, as the Red Storm took the rubber game of a three-game series against the Fordham Rams, 8-2, at Kaiser Stadium on Monday.

St. John's opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, taking advantage of a Fordham error that led to a two-run single by Ben Beauchamp.  The Red Storm then added single runs in the third and fourth innings, extending the lead to 4-0.

Fordham then got on the board in the top of fifth, when Steve Luttazi hit a solo home run to right field, his third of the season.

St. John's answered with three runs in the sixth to push the lead to 7-1, highlighted by an RBI-single by Jackson Tucker.  The Red Storm tacked one a run in the seventh, while Fordham scored once in the ninth for the 8-2 final.  The Rams loaded the bases on singles by Henry Pelinski and Christian Ovecka and a walk to Luttazi with Pelinski scoring on a ground out by Cian Sahler.

Aidan Dowd (1-1) took the loss, allowing three unearned runs over three innings of work.

WE'RE GOIN' STREAKIN': Cian Sahler is batting .364 (12-33) with six runs scored, a home run, and 10 RBI… Nico Boza has nine RBI in his last nine games, while batting .367 in that stretch (11-30)… Chris Genaro is also hitting .364 (12-33) in his last 10 games with four extra-base hits and eight RBI… Aric Berg is 3-0 with a 1.74 ERA in his last five appearances with 13 strikeouts in 10.1 innings of work… In his first six appearances, Aidan Dowd had a 0.63 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 14.1 innings… Connor Haywood has two saves, a 2.84 ERA, and 10 strikeouts over his last five relief appearances.
