Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham women's tennis team hosted its first home match of the spring and came away with a 5-2 win over George Washington University at the Cary Leeds Center on Saturday.
"Great to get a victory at home," said head coach
Michael Sowter. "Credit to GWU, they competed really well so I'm happy with how the team responded and looking forward to our next match at Brown."
The match opened with the Rams winning the doubles point, taking two of the three doubles matches.
Raffaela Alhach and
Anlin Xie defeated George Washington's Madison Lee and Stella Wiesemann at first singles while
Xiaowei "Rose" Hu and
Eleni Fasoula were victorious over Victoria Sasinka and Gabriela Giraldo, 6-2, at the second positions.
Fordham then won the match by winning four of the six singles matches, all in straight sets. Hu won at second singles, while
Xintong "Cindy" Zhou took third singles,
Demi Jhaveri was victorious at the fifth spot, and
Franny Shea picked up a win at the sixth position.
