Women’s Tennis Defeats LIU, 5-2

Anlin Xie wins at third singles and first doubles

Port Washington, N.Y. – The Fordham women's tennis team picked up its third win over its last four matches with a 5-2 victory over Long Island University on Sunday night at SPORTTIME Port Washington.
 
The match opened with the Rams dropping the hard-fought doubles point. Raffaela Alhach and Anlin Xie defeated LIU's Jasmine Maduel and Saki Oyama at first doubles but the other two doubles matches went to an extra set with third doubles being decided by a tiebreaker.
 
Fordham won the match by winning five of the six singles matches. Xiaowei "Rose" Hu won at second singles, coming back after dropping the first set, 6-3, to win the second, 7-6(3) and the third, 6-4, while Xie was victorious at third singles in straight sets, 7-5 and 7-5. Franny Shea took fifth singles in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, while Eleni Fasoula (fourth) and Julianne Nguyen (sixth) each won after their opponent retired with injury.
