Box Score

RICHMOND, Va. (Feb. 3, 2024) – A hard fought opening half saw the home side pull away down the stretch as Fordham University women's basketball fell to Richmond 79-60 Saturday night in Virginia.

The Rams offense, which shot over 40% from the field and from three point range, assisted on 14 of 23 makes from the floor and picked eight steals on the defensive end. Taylor Donaldson would lead the way with 23 points including five threes and four points from the free throw line. Emy Hayford would finish in double figures as well, tallying 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting and 2-of-2 on three pointers.

A high scoring opening quarter would see Richmond open the game with an early lead, but the Rams managed the hot start and worked back into the game early with a few makes of their own. Pulling away again late in the quarter, the Spiders would keep Fordham off the board to pull away for a 12 point lead after one.

Despite the deficit, the visitors would open the second with four of the first six makes from the floor, cutting the Richmond lead to single digits. Continuing to battle back as the first half came to a close, the Rams would find themselves back within one score with less than two minutes to play. With less than 60 seconds to go in the opening half, Fordham would tie the game on a Donaldson corner three with the shot clock expiring.

Trailing by two coming out of the break, Fordham would start a flurry of free throws for the teams, who combined to shoot ten free throws in the first five minutes of the second half. Richmond would stretch its advantage to four ahead of the third quarter media stoppage, and take a 10 point lead into the fourth quarter.
The Spiders would score the first two baskets from the field to start the fourth quarter, and pull away for the win Saturday night.

Fordham women's basketball returns to the Five Boroughs this week for a pair of games at the Rose Hill Gym, beginning Wednesday night when the Rams host Dayton at 7:00 p.m.
