Women’s Swimming & Diving Up to Third at A-10 Championship

Rams Medal Five Times on Friday, Led by Gold Medals to Zebrowski & Martin

Hampton, Va. – (February 23, 2024) – Day three of the 2024 Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Championship wrapped up at the Hampton Aquaplex in Hampton, Virginia, and the Fordham women moved up to third place out of 11 teams.
 
George Washington remains in first place for the third consecutive day with 583.5 points, followed by Richmond (306.5), Fordham (295), Duquesne (276.5), Davidson (205.5), George Mason (194), Massachusetts (190.5), St. Bonaventure (174), La Salle (112.5), Rhode Island (105) and Saint Louis (72).
 
The night of finals began with the 100 butterfly final, as both Jessica Zebrowski and Manon Compagner made the championship.  Zebrowski won the event to claim Atlantic 10 champion and First Team All-Atlantic 10 status in an NCAA "B" cut time of 53.24 seconds, while Compagner took the bronze medal in third place, also in an NCAA "B" cut time of 53.47 seconds.
 
The Rams then went 2-for-2 in gold medal performances, as Ainhoa Martin won her second event of the championship, claiming the 400 individual medley event in an NCAA "B" cut time of 4:15.06.  Additionally, Emilie Krog scored 12th in 4:25.42 with Miranda Bonitatebus in 15th at 4:30.74.
 
In the 200 freestyle, Fordham had a pair of "B" finalists with Krog scoring 14th in 1:51.65 and Alison Lin in 15th at 1:51.86.
 
In the 100 breaststroke, Emma Shaughnessy picked up Fordham's fourth medal of the night.  She earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors and the silver medal with a school record and NCAA "B" cut time of 1:01.13.
 
The last individual swimming event saw Jane Brown just miss the podium in the 100 backstroke, clocking in at 54.10 seconds with Leire Martin scoring 14th in the "B" final at 55.40 seconds.
 
In the final relay, the Rams netted Second Team All-Atlantic 10 accolades and a silver medal in the 400 medley relay, as Brown, Shaughnessy, Zebrowski, and Compagner posted a school record time of 3:39.51.
 
The final day of the Atlantic 10 Championship on Saturday will feature the 100 and 1650 freestyle, the 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, the three-meter dive, and 400 freestyle relay.  Preliminaries begin at 10:00 AM with the finals at 6:30 PM.
