Bronx, N.Y. – (October 24, 2024) – Trailing 2-1 in the second half, Fordham's
Julia Acosta scored a brilliant goal in the 71
st minute to give the Rams a 2-2 draw against the Dayton Flyers at Moglia Stadium on Thursday night.
The draw gave Fordham an all-important point in the Atlantic 10 standings, as coupled with other results around the league, secured the #4 seed for the Rams and a home game in the Atlantic 10 Championship quarterfinals.
The night started out great for the Rams, taking a 1-0 lead in the 36
th minute.
Fernanda Serna got a through ball ahead to
Abby Borchers on the run toward the top of the box. Borchers was able to one-touch around Dayton goalkeeper Batoul Reda and punch home her eighth goal of the season into an empty net.
The Flyers then came out strong in the second half, netting the tying goal in the 49
th minute and a go-ahead goal just nine minutes later. After a bad clearance, Dayton's Laney Smith fired home a hard shot to the lower right corner from 20 yards out for her eighth goal of the season. Then, Liv Grenda found a loose ball in the box off a set piece and tucked home her seventh of the season.
Fordham fought back in the 71
st minute, as
Julia Acosta got wide on the left side. She carried the ball in and darted toward the top of the box, firing a shot that found the top right corner for her ninth goal of the year and a 2-2 score.
The match finished as a draw, as Reda recorded three saves for the Flyers, while Fordham's
Kyla King was credited with five saves.
The Rams will now have to wait until Sunday to find out who they will host in the Atlantic 10 Championship quarterfinal, which is slated for Friday, November 1
st at Moglia Stadium at 7:00 PM.
