Bronx, N.Y. – (November 1, 2024) – Saint Joseph's Emily Hanrahan and Chloe Khelil netted first half goals, while Katie Cappelletti registered seven saves, as the Hawks defeated the Fordham Rams, 2-1, at Moglia Stadium in the Atlantic 10 Championship quarterfinals.
The Hawks (9-3-7) opened the scoring in the 24
th minute. At midfield, Natalie Nevins won a 50-50 ball to find Sarah Fisher on the run into the offensive zone. Fisher got a through ball ahead to Emily Hanrahan, who tucked a shot over the goalkeeper and under the crossbar for her seventh goal of the season.
Then in the 40
th minute, Saint Joseph's made it 2-0 on a long free kick by Chloe Khelil. From just behind the midfield line, she launched a free kick to the edge of the six-yard box that missed her teammate and bounced over Fordham goalkeeper
Kyla King into the net for her first marker of the season.
Fordham fired a number of shots at Saint Joseph's goalkeeper Katie Cappelletti to try and get back into the game, but she registered seven saves to keep Fordham at bay until the 90
th minute.
Riley Carroll was able to sneak a shot past Cappelletti off a cross from
Ryann Lucas with three seconds left on the clock for her third goal of the season.
King finished with five saves for the Rams, as their season ends with a 10-5-4 record.
