Women’s Soccer Clinches A-10 Playoff Spot

Abby Borchers Posts Two Goals & An Assist in 4-0 Fordham Win

St. Bonaventure, N.Y. – (October 20, 2024) – The Fordham women's soccer team clinched a spot in the Atlantic 10 Championship for the first time since 2019 on Sunday afternoon, after posting a 4-0 win over the St. Bonaventure Bonnies at the Marra Athletic Complex in St. Bonaventure, N.Y.

The win kept Fordham in sole possession of third place in the Atlantic 10 standings with 17 points, improving the team's record to 10-4-3 overall, 5-2-2 in the conference.  It is the Rams' first 10-win season since 2016.

The Rams started the scoring in the 16th minute on a free kick by Lena Johnsen.  The long ball found the head of Abby Borchers in the box, deflecting the ball inside the left post for her sixth goal of the season.

Fordham quickly made it 2-0 in the 19th minute on a strong rush attack.  Ella Guth started the run, getting a through ball to Borchers to the right side.  Borchers then connected with Julia Acosta on the run, who slipped a quick shot past the goalkeeper for her eighth goal of the season.

The offense kept rolling in the second half, scoring two more times for a 4-0 decision.  In the 66th minute, Borchers netted her second goal of the game, after stealing the ball from the Bonnies goalkeeper and scoring into an empty net.  The last goal came in the 88th minute, as Liina Tervo followed up her own shot and scored on the rebound into an empty net for her team-leading 10th goal of the season.  With the marker, Tervo tied the Rams' freshman goals record, set by Sarah Hopkins in 2003, while becoming only the ninth Ram to reach double figures in goals in a single season.

Kyla King made two saves in goal for the Rams, posting her second consecutive shutout and sixth of her career.

The Rams will conclude their regular season on Thursday, October 24th, as they host Dayton for a 7:00 PM Atlantic 10 match at Moglia Stadium.
