Women’s Basketball Heads to VCU for Midweek Clash

The Battle of the Rams between Fordham and VCU is slated for a 6:00 p.m. tipoff on ESPN+

RICHMOND, VA. - On the back end of a two game road trip, Fordham University women's basketball heads to Virginia Wednesday night for a meeting with VCU at 6:00 p.m.

  • Wednesday's game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ from the Stuart C. Seigel Center at VCU

  • Chris Carrino and Julia Moss will also be on site, calling the game live on WFUV Radio on YouTube Live.

Matchup History

  • Since VCU joined the Atlantic 10 for the start of the 2012-2013 season, the "Battle of the Rams" has seen Fordham and VCU jockey on 12 prior occasions, with Fordham holding a slim 7-5 lead in the all-time series.

  • Fordham has won the last two meetings between the two sides, claiming a victory in the Bronx a year ago, and in Richmond the year prior.

Fordham Fast Pass

  • Garnering their first conference victory last Wednesday against St. Bonaventure, the Rams (6-9, 1-3 A-10) fell to La Salle in their last game on the road in Philadelphia.

  • Getting in the passing lanes all season long, the Rams are averaging 11.1 steals per game as a team, which ranks 31st in the nation and leads the A-10 Conference.

  • When they're not sprinting down the other way, Fordham is still forcing opponents into 19.07 turnovers per game, tied for third best in the conference and 71st nationally.

  • The Rams place 82nd amongst all Division I teams and third in the A-10 in blocks per game averaging 3.9 per contest.

  • Taylor Donaldson leads all players in the A-10 in steals per game (2.77), total steals (36), and points per game (18.7) which places her 29th, 45th, and 54th nationally in those respective categories. She also sits amongst the Top-75 players in the country in minutes per game (34.58), three pointers made (36), and three point percentage (35.4%).

  • Emy Hayford and Matilda Flood sit top six in the A-10 in total steals and steals per game with 31 and 29 steals, respectively.

  • A closely contested battle for much of Saturday afternoon saw Fordham fall to La Salle 64-53.

  • Emy Hayford would lead the Rams on the offensive side with 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting, along with three rebounds, two steals, and two assists. 

  • One of three players with three steals apiece, Taylor Donaldson would add 12 points and along with Taya Davis who also had six rebounds and five assists.

  • Mandy McGurk rounded out that trio with three steals as well, while Maranda Nyborg completed the group of double digit scorers, on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting with 10 points. 

  • With eight points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor, Rose Nelson would tally a career high 10 rebounds as well to pace the Rams' efforts on the glass.

Scouting VCU

  • VCU started off the season strong and continued their winning ways throughout, sitting at 13-2 on the year, and 2-1 in Atlantic 10 play. 

  • After falling to Richmond in the midweek, the first loss since Nov. 19 at James Madison, VCU bounced back with a 65-55 win over Davidson last time out, a team receiving votes in the national top-25.

  • With two players averaging over 13 points per game, VCU is paced by Timaya Lewis-Eutsey and Sarah Te-Biasu, with the former of the two shooting an impressive 51.9% from the field this season.

  • VCU stands fourth in the nation in scoring defense, sixth in the country in three point percentage defense, and 10th in rebounding margin.

Fordham returns to the Five Boroughs Sunday afternoon when they host Davidson on National Television, with the game set to air on the CBS Sports Network at 2:00 p.m.
