Philadelphia, Pa. – (January 20, 2024) – In its first action of the new semester, the Fordham swimming & diving team split its dual meet against the La Salle Explorers in Philadelphia. The Fordham women extended their dual meet win streak to 27, defeating La Salle, 165-135, while the Fordham men were handed their first loss of the year, 169-129.
For the women,
Emilie Krog and
Ainhoa Martin were both multi-event winners on Saturday. Krog grabbed first in both distance freestyle events, posting times of 10:50.40 (1000) and 5:14.76 (500), while Martin won the 200 freestyle (1:54.55) and 200 breaststroke (2:18.52).
Six other individuals had event wins for the Rams, beginning with
Jane Brown, who won the 100 backstroke in 57.88 seconds, and
Emma Shaughnessy, taking the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.47.
Jessica Zebrowski won the 200 butterfly (2:08.33) with
Leire Martin taking the 200 backstroke (2:04.98).
Manon Compagner (100 butterfly – 58.69) and
Alison Lin (200 IM – 2:07.55) rounded out the individual winners.
Fordham's final women's event win was in the 200 medley relay, where Brown, Shaughnessy, Zebrowski and
Zoei Howard took first in 1:45.84.
For the men,
Guy Gropper led the way with event wins in the 50 freestyle (20.43) and 100 butterfly (49.10). He was also a part of the winning 400 freestyle relay team with
Christian Taylor,
Alex Wilhelm, and
Alexander Shah, who clocked in at 3:00.78.
Wilhelm also won an individual event, taking the top spot in the 200 freestyle in 1:41.23.
The only other Ram with a first place finish on Saturday was
Noah Althoff, who won the 200 individual medley in 1:53.40.
The Rams will next be in action on January 24th at Iona, beginning at 5:00 PM.
